【摘要】:Thetermappearance(see3.2.1)impliestheessentialpresenceofhumanvisualobservations.Theresultsofvisualobservationinvolvenotonlythestepofobserving,accomplishedbytheeye,butalsotheinseparablestepofinterpretationinthebrain.Instrumentaltestmethodscurrentlycannotduplicatethissecondstep,andthereforecannowonlyapproximate,butnotfullymeasure,appearance.Suchinstrumentalmeasuresofappearancepropertiesareusefulonlytotheextentthattheycanbecorrelatedtotheresultsofvisualobservationsbyobserversoftheappearancephenomenabeingevaluated.Almostinvariably,toolittleattentionhasbeenpaidtoensuringthattheessentialvisualobservationshavebeenproperlyobtainedtoprovidethebasisforcorrelatingvisualandinstrumentaltestresults.(Theonlyrecentbookdevotedtovisualmeasurements(1)hasnoindexentryforobserver.)Thisguideprovidesthemeansforassessingobservers,byoutliningtherequirementsandtestsfortheirselection,evaluation,andtraining.Thisguideshouldbeusefultoallexperimentersdesigningorusingvisualtestmethodstoprovideeitherdirectresultsintermsoftheobservationofappearanceproperties,ortheexperimentscorrelatingsuchresultswithinstrumentalmeasuresapproximatingthesameappearanceproperties.1.1Thisguidedescribescriteriaandtestsforselecting,evaluating,andtraininghumanvisual-sensoryobserversfortasksinvolvingtheperceptionandscalingofpropertiesandphenomenarelatingtoappearance.1.2ExamplesoftestsrequiringtheuseoftrainedobserversincludebutarenotlimitedtothosedescribedinthefollowingASTMstandards:oncolor,PracticeD1535andPracticeE1360;oncolordifference,PracticeD1729andTestMethodD2616;ongloss,TestMethodD4449;onmetamerism,PracticeD4086;andonsettingtolerances,PracticeD3134.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
